People : Who we are

Erin's rose: the epitome of glamour. And it's yummy too!

The scene. So, now you want to know a little about who we are? Well, for starters C-U Midnight Assembly — or CUMA for the linguistically challenged — is the name for the Champaign-Urbana underground alternative music scene.

The moniker itself was first proposed two years ago as part of an effort to symbolize the unity of our local subculture: "C-U" identifies our community while "Midnight" reflects the Gothic contingent and "Assembly", the Industrial contingent.

The CUMA Website itself is a cooperative project, designed to further represent and inform any and all gawths, rivetheads, etc. of area happenings. This is our homepage, of sorts, to the outside world. In fact, it might be wise to bookmark this site and visit often. =)

Seth and Dan prove that a warm huggle can make everything better!

People. We are a unique group of individuals from a diversity of backgrounds, interests, ages, and cultures. To put it bluntly, a great number of us are trapped — I mean residents at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), a world-reknowned technical/engineering school.

Of course, there are others who are students at Parkland Community College and even surrounding K-12 schools. And then again, some of us are are already professionally employed, and, well, a few are even unemployed. But that is irrelevant, as I'm certain there are a few that might even claim to be dead [grin].

Below are some photos taken at The Assembly on June 13, 2001. For more photos from other events...
